The story

Leading at school, competing on the mat.

Maksim is IWS’s Head Boy and a kendo competitor. Kendo is a form of Japanese fencing, and it takes him to national championships in Romania, Bulgaria and Greece.

At the National Kendo Competition in Bulgaria he placed first in the individual category and second in the team event.

He studied A Level with IWS. As he puts it, all he needs to take with him is his computer, so he can compete anywhere and stay on track.

How school fitted round it

Championships in three countries.

Studying online with IWS means he can take part in national championships in different countries.

In Maksim’s own words

All he needs is his computer.

IWS has been especially helpful with my kendo. National championships happen in different countries, and thanks to IWS I have been able to take part in all of them, in Romania, in Bulgaria, even in Greece.

All I need to take with me is my computer, and I can get educated anywhere, which I think is pretty cool. Kendo is a form of Japanese fencing and one of the coolest sports I do, and I have been doing it for almost three years now.

Maksim B., IWS Head Boy

From his own account, recorded when he was in grade 12 and aiming for the University of Bath. He is there now.
