Maksim B., IWS Online School Head Boy

Maksim B.

KENDO · HEAD BOYA LEVEL STUDENT

Leading at school, winning on the mat

Maksim is IWS’s Head Boy and a national-level kendo competitor. Kendo, a form of Japanese fencing he has practised for almost three years, takes him to national championships across Europe, in Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. At the National Kendo Competition in Bulgaria he placed first in the individual category and second in the team event, holding his own against adult competitors in the men’s division at just 17.

He studies A Level with IWS with his sights set on the University of Bath, and, as he says, all he needs to take with him is his computer, so he can compete anywhere and stay on track. That same steadiness shows up in his role as Head Boy, where he leads by example across the school community.

In Maksim’s own words

“My name is Maksim and I am in grade 12, aiming to attend the University of Bath once I finish my A Levels. IWS has been especially helpful with my kendo. National championships happen in different countries, and thanks to IWS I have been able to take part in all of them, in Romania, in Bulgaria, even in Greece. All I need to take with me is my computer, and I can get educated anywhere, which I think is pretty cool. Kendo is a form of Japanese fencing and one of the coolest sports I do, and I have been doing it for almost three years now.”
